We opened our first agency in 2011 so customers in the Vestavia Hills area can get outstanding service while protecting the things that are important to them. After seeing how much we could positively affect the community, we opened a second office here in Birmingham in 2016.

We are a community-focused agency and love making a difference in the greater Birmingham area. Our staff is challenged to choose their own nonprofit and spend time on the clock to support their efforts. Throughout the years, we have supported Temple Emanu-El, Levite Jewish Community Center, Holy Family Cristo Rey Catholic High School, the City of Birmingham Mayor’s Office Division of Youth Services, Adaptive Aquatics, Collat Jewish Family Services, Mike Slive Foundation, United Way of Central Alabama and the University of Missouri Alumni Association.

In 2019, our agency started the Birmingham Barons’ “Seventh Inning Wave” tradition for patients at the Children's Hospital of Alabama. I also serve as a member of Birmingham Sunrise Rotary Club, Vestavia Hills Chamber of Commerce, Mountain Brook Chamber of Commerce and the Birmingham Business Alliance.

Thank you to the community members and local businesses ̶ ARC Realty, Ray and Poynor Realty, Assurance Financial Mortgage and Birmingham Mortgage ̶ that participated in our annual holiday toy drive. The toys were dropped off at the City of Birmingham Mayor's Office Division of Youth Services to distribute to families in need. We wish everyone a wonderful holiday season!

UAB requested ideas to create a healthier Birmingham through their contest called UAB Grand Challenge in early 2020. In November, the Birmingham Sunrise Rotary Club partnered with UAB to start on one of the submitted ideas for healthy living – planting trees in Titusville and Kingston. Together we can make a difference!

During the holidays, it’s important for our agency to give back. We partnered with ARC Realty, Ray & Poynor Properties, Assurance Financial and Birmingham Sunrise Rotary Club to collect toys. We dropped the toys off at the City of Birmingham Mayor's Office Division of Youth Services to distribute to youth in need. Thank you to everyone who donated a toy. We’re so excited to give these kids a wonderful holiday!

In November, I loaned The Marcus Agency truck to Collat Jewish Family Services. They used our truck to distribute groceries to elderly in need. I want to give a special shout-out to the UAB students who volunteered to transport the groceries. When we come together, we can truly make a difference!

I recently joined my fellow Allstate agency owners to volunteer at Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Alabama. In honor of our volunteerism, The Allstate Foundation gave a $10,000 Allstate Foundation Helping Hands Grant to help support the nonprofit’s efforts to motivate young people to achieve their full potential. Together, we help our local communities thrive.

As a small-business owner, I care about making our community a great place to live and work. That’s why I’m honored to announce my new role as president of the Birmingham Sunrise Rotary. I’m excited to push the organization to greater heights and have a positive effect in the Birmingham community.

I believe that helping others makes our communities stronger and healthier, which is why I am proud to have helped The Dannon Project qualify for a $24,000 Allstate Foundation Helping Hands in the Community grant. I support The Dannon Project’s efforts to ensure at-risk individuals in our community get the resources they need to be productive citizens. This grant will be put to good use as The Dannon Project funds its YouthBuild program.

The City of Birmingham Mayor’s Office Division of Youth Services honors select individuals in the community each year as “Humble Heroes,” for their selfless work supporting young people in Birmingham. In 2017, Nathan Marcus was named a Humble Hero. He’s deeply engaged in toy drives for children around the holidays. He joined other award winners at a luncheon in April and received his award from Cedric Sparks Sr., executive director for the City of Birmingham Mayor’s Office Division of Youth Services.

It will be a happier Christmas for many children in the Birmingham area thanks to all of your great support. Eight overflowing boxes of toys collected at The Marcus Agency locations were donated to the CBS42 Youth First Holiday Toy Drive. The city of Birmingham’s Division of Youth Services will distribute the toys to deserving children. Our team is thankful for our wonderful community here, and this is one small we can serve the greater good in Birmingham.

Living in Birmingham, I understand the challenges facing people in our area and want to make a difference. My team and I are proud to have worked with the Birmingham Sunrise Rotary to help fill boxes of food at the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama!
